What buyers get wrong

Four things we correct in almost every first quotation. Reading them now saves a revision round later.

01Zellige is not flat and not squareEach tile is hand-cut, so edges vary by 1/32–1/16 in. That irregularity is the material. Specify a tight grout joint (1/16–1/8 in) and brief your installer before delivery.
02Glaze varies between firingsWood-fired kilns produce shade movement within a colour. Order 12–15% overage from the same batch — a top-up firing six months later will not match.
03Cedar moves in dry climatesDoors leaving Fes at 12% moisture shrink in a heated European interior. We kiln-dry and build in tolerance, but the door needs two weeks acclimatising on site before fitting.
04Tadelakt needs a skilled handThe material is the easy part. Budget for our applicator team to travel, or a serious training day with your local plasterer — a bad application can’t be repaired, only removed.
